VOLUMETRIC PRICING

For all air cargo, volumetric prices may be applied.

Essentially, this is where a package weighs very little but takes up a lot of volume.

For the purpose of air cargo, the volumetric weight of a package is calculated by multiplying the 3 dimensions in centimetres and dividing the total by 6000.

For example, a package weighs 25kgs but its dimensions are 65cm x 65cm x 65cm. The total is 274,625, divided by 6000 this gives a volumetric weight of 45.77kgs, so the chargeable weight is 46kgs.

This an IATA standard throughout the air carg industry which is that 1 cubic metre is charged at a minimum of 167kgs.
